ORV accident in Western U.P. claims one life

CRYSTAL FALLS TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Marquette man has died in an off-road vehicle crash in the Western U.P.

The Iron County Sheriff's Office says the accident happened Saturday around 8 p.m. on the North Fence River Road in Crystal Falls Township.  The Department says David Pansier, 69, was found unresponsive under his four-wheeled vehicle.

It says Pansier had been eastbound when he lost control of his ORV.  He was thrown from the vehicle, which then rolled over onto him.

Officials say Pansier had been drinking and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation pending results of an autopsy.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
