One injured in Sands Township rollover crash

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was injured in a single-vehicle rollover accident in Sands Township over the weekend.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened Sunday around 12:50 a.m. on County Road 480 just east of Seney Road.

A Honda SUV driven by Cora Longtine, 34, of Negaunee was westbound when she lost control of the vehicle and left the right side of the roadway.  The SUV rolled and came to rest with its roof submerged in a creek.  Other motorists called 911 and tried to free Longtine, but were unsuccessful.  Deputies arrived and were able to retrieve her from the passenger’s side.

Longtine was taken to Marquette General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Longtine was wearing a  safety belt.  It’s unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
