Semi jackknifes in Iron County accident

HEMATITE TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person is injured, following a tractor-trailer crash in Iron County.

The Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened Monday around 8 a.m. on US-141 near the Net River in Hematite Township.

Deputies say Anthony Zarcone, 44, of Caspian had been northbound when he lost control of the truck.  It crossed the roadway, spun around, and left the road traveling backward.  The tractor jackknifed and struck the trailer before coming to rest against some trees.

Zarcone was found unconscious after the crash.  He was taken to Northstar Hospital in Iron River with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies say excessive speed and icy conditions were factors in the crash.  Zarcone had not been drinking and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
