Multi-vehicle accident closes down US-2

NAUBINWAY, MI--   No one was injured in a multi-vehicle pileup on US-2 Wednesday.

Police say whiteout conditions and slippery roads are to blame for the accident that happened around noon just east of Naubinway.

The Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office says a westbound semi lost control and jackknifed across the highway, blocking traffic.  A vehicle behind the semi stopped at the side of the road, but was hit by another semi that jackknifed, as well.

Deputies say after they arrived at the scene a third semi stopped at the crash, but was then hit by a fourth truck that spilled its load of large paper rolls.

Traffic was rerouted for nearly five hours while officials cleared the accident.

The incident remains under investigation.
