Mackinac Island woman dies in snowmobile accident

MACKINAC ISLAND, MI (AP)--   Authorities on Mackinac Island say a resident was killed when she lost control of her snowmobile and struck a tree. 

MLive.com says the crash happened around 5:45 p.m. Monday on the western side of the resort island. 

Island police identify the victim as Rebecca Mentzer, 51.  Police say Mentzer had a passenger, who was thrown from the snowmobile but was uninjured.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
