Mackinac County accident leaves one dead

CLARK TOWNSHIP -

One woman is dead following a two vehicle accident in Mackinac County. State Police say the accident happened Saturday at about 1:37pm on M-134 near South Short Street in Clark Township. Troopers say a westbound vehicle driven by 66-year old Joann Fountain of DeTour, crossed the center line and struck an eastbound vehicle. Fountain was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation indicates that possibly a medical condition caused Fountain to cross the center line. The driver of the eastbound vehicle, a 65-year old man from Cedarville was taken to War Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. Both drivers wore seatbelts, and both vehicle had airbags deployed.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Mackinac County Sheriff’s department and the Clark Township Fire Department.

            The crash remains under investigation.
