MARQUETTE, MI-- Lake Superior proved to be too much for a downstate woman who jumped in at the Presque Isle Black Rocks.
Sunday around 3 p.m. Marquette City Police and Fire departments were called to the Island to help a female swimmer in distress.
The victim was part of an Oakland University student group that was filming in the area. The group had asked park patrol personnel about the Black Rocks and were advised to stay out of the water because it was too cold. The group ignored the advice and jumped in anyway, which incapacitated one of the female students.
A flotation device was thrown to the victim, who was also aided by the group’s camera man and the park patrol officer.
The woman was treated for the onset of hypothermia. She also sought her own treatment after the incident.
