Kayakers rescued from Escanaba River

DELTA COUNTY, MI--   Two kayakers are lucky to be alive, after they became stuck in Delta County rapids Friday night.

Sheriff’s deputies received a call around 9:10 p.m. reporting that four kayakers had capsized on the Escanaba River near Boney Falls.  Two were able to make it to shore; the other two remained in the water.

The Sheriff’s Department, troopers from the Gladstone Post, and the Delta County Search and Rescue Team responded to the site.   They located a 21-year-old Bark River man and 19-year-old Escanaba woman lodged in some rapids south of the Boney Falls dam.  The two were freed with swift water rescue equipment, treated at the scene, and released.
