Delta County drowning claims boy's life

ESCANABA, MI--   A 14-year-old boy has drowned near Escanaba.  

WLUC-TV reports searchers were called to the northeastern part of the Ludington Park Marina beach around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.  Delta County Search and Rescue, a dive team, and a Coast Guard helicopter from Traverse City searched the area for nearly four hours. 

Officials found the boy’s body in the water around 9:15 p.m. 

His parents have been notified but no name has been released. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
