Gwinn crash sends kids to hospital

GWINN, MI--   Two children were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle accident in Gwinn.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened Sunday around 2:30 p.m. on M-35 in front of the Kountry Korner convenience store.

Deputies say a Ford pickup truck driven by Tyler Seppanen, 20, of Gwinn was southbound when it turned left in front of a northbound Dodge Stratus driven by Faith Smith, 36, also of Gwinn.

Two children who were sitting in the rear of Smith's vehicle were taken to Marquette General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released.

All parties were wearing seat belts and using child restraint equipment.  Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

Seppanen was cited for making an improper turn.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
