Ishpeming man could be charged in ATV accident

ELY TOWNSHIP, MI--   Charges could be pending against an Ishpeming man involved in an ATV crash in Ely Township.  

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened Wednesday around 6:30 p.m. on County Road 581 near County Road CPA.  The 40-year-old driver was northbound when he lost control, left the shoulder to the right, and crashed into a wooded area in front of a residence. 

The man was wearing a helmet.  He was taken to Marquette General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. 

Deputies say the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.  Charges of operating while intoxicated-3rd offense and driving with a suspended license will be sought with the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
