Woman taken to hospital after Negaunee accident

NEGAUNEE, MI--   One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Negaunee Thursday.

City Police say the accident happened around 9:53 a.m. at the intersection of Division and Rail streets.  Officers say a Honda Civic driven by Megan Korpi, 19, of Ishpeming was westbound on Rail Street and speeding when she failed to stop at a stop sign.  The car struck a northbound Jeep driven by Jack Anderson, 56, of Negaunee.

Korpi was taken to Bell Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.  She was also cited for careless driving.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
