Chopper helps rescue Schoolcraft County kayakers

SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY, MI--   Three kayakers were rescued from the Manistique River over the weekend, thanks to the efforts of a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter.

WLUC-TV reports the three adults and one child were reported missing Saturday night.  Officials say the chopper from Traverse City had been conducting a separate search in Lake Superior and was refueling at the Schoolcraft County Airport when it received the call around 8:30 p.m.

Using night vision goggles, the helicopter crew was able to spot the kayakers and directed local law enforcement to their location.

No injuries were reported.
