Car causes motorcycle to crash in Negaunee Township

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   An Ishpeming man has been seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in Negaunee Township.

Troopers from the Negaunee Post say the crash happened Tuesday around 5:12 p.m. on US-41 in front of Kassel’s Midway Store.  Dale Alongo, 52, of Ishpeming was riding his Harley westbound on the highway when a Ford Taurus driven by Nicholas Gohl, 18, of Chatham passed him.  As Gohl moved back into the right lane the rear fender of his vehicle hit the front wheel of Alongo’s motorcycle, causing him to lose control of the bike and crash.

Alongo was taken to Marquette General Hospital with serious injuries.  He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Neither Gohl nor his two passengers were injured.

Gohl was cited for improper lane use.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
