UPDATE: Truck hits tree in Negaunee Township

UPDATE-10/15/13, 11:35 a.m.:  Police have identified the driver as Joseph Mackey, 53.  Officials say a deputy patrolling in the area came upon the crash.  Mackey was taken to MGH, treated for head injuries, and released.  Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person has been injured in a single-vehicle accident on County Road 510 in Negaunee Township.  

Sheriff’s deputies say Monday around 10:55 p.m. a pickup was northbound when it went off the eastern shoulder of the road and struck a tree.  The driver—a

53-year-old Negaunee man—was taken to Marquette General Hospital with unknown injuries.

Deputies say alcohol may be a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Michigan State Police and Negaunee Township Fire and Rescue 131 assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
