MUNISING TOWNSHIP, MI--   A man has died in a camping accident at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

WLUC-TV reports the incident happened Monday around 4:45 a.m. at Miner’s Falls at the Alger County park.  Initial investigation reveals two men were camping at the top of the falls when they became cold and decided to build a fire.  While gathering wood one of the men either lost his bearings or slipped and fell over the falls.

Officials from the Alger County Sheriff’s Office say rescue efforts were slowed by the remote location of the camp.  The victim was recovered and taken to Munising Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  His name has not yet been released.

The accident remains under investigation.
