Pedestrian killed in Wakefield Township accident

WAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI--   Officials continue to investigate a fatal car-pedestrian accident in Gogebic County.

The Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened Wednesday around 8:48 p.m. on US-2 at the intersection of Mikado Road in Wakefield Township.

Deputies say Susanne Sutton, 49, of Ironwood stepped into the traffic lane as Lindsey Sullivan, 18, of Bessemer was driving past.  Sutton was killed on impact.

Officials say alcohol is not believed to be a factor with the driver.  They do, however, believe it was a factor in Sutton stepping onto the highway.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
