Ice and snow contribute to crash on CR 492

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person sustained minor injuries in a single-vehicle accident in Marquette Township.

Sheriff’s deputies say the crash happened Tuesday around 5:15 p.m. on County Road 492 just east of Morgan Meadows Road.

A vehicle driven by Trina Ruokala, 48, of Ishpeming was westbound when she lost control on the icy roadway.  The car ran off the road, rolled over, and struck a rock bluff.

Ruokala had to be extricated from the vehicle.  She was taken to Marquette General Hospital, treated and released.

Deputies say alcohol was not a factor in the crash and no citations were issued.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
