Person rescued after falling through Marquette harbor ice

MARQUETTE, MI--   An individual is hospitalized after they fell through some ice into freezing water at Marquette's Lower Harbor. 

Personnel from the Marquette Fire Department were dispatched about 12:20 a.m. Friday to Thill's Fish Dock.  They located the victim in the water approximately 60 feet off shore.  Two firefighters donned ice rescue gear, entered the water and swam out to the victim, who was secured and brought back to land.

The individual was taken to Marquette General Hospital.  Their condition is unknown at this time. 

No other injuries are reported.

Firefighters were assisted at the scene by Marquette Police, Marquette General EMS and the U.S. Coast Guard.   

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
