State Police car struck by front end loader

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, MI--   No injuries are reported, after a front end loader got into an accident with a Michigan State Police patrol car.

Troopers from the Calumet Post say the crash happened around 2:25 p.m. Wednesday on US-41 near Pontiac Road.

A trooper was northbound, responding to a domestic assault complaint with its lights flashing and siren on when it tried to overtake a front end loader.  As the patrol car passed, the loader—driven by a 62-year-old Houghton man—tried to turn left onto Pontiac Road.  Its bucket struck the passenger side of the patrol vehicle, sending it into a spin and into a snow bank.

The patrol car suffered extensive damage, while the front end loader sustained none.  Neither driver was injured.

The Houghton man was cited for failure to yield when overtaken.

State Police are reminding motorists to always be aware of their surroundings when driving and to pull over to the side of the road when emergency vehicles appear.
