Two dead after truck-motorcycle accident

  ISHPEMING, MI - Two people are dead following a collision between a truck and motorcycle in Ishpeming. City police say the accident happened yesterday (Thursday) at about 1:20pm at the intersection of US-41 and Lakeshore Drive. Preliminary investigation shows the driver of the Ryder truck, 19-year old Raymond Michael Anderson of Ishpeming, may have turned into the path of the motorcycle when turning off the highway onto Lakeshore Drive. Police say the motorcycle had the right-of-way. The driver of the motorcycle, 64-year old Gary James Kappler of Ahmeek, and his girlfriend, 52-year old Diane Lovan Palosaari of Mohawk, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Police say they were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident. The accident remains under investigation.

Ishpeming City Police were assisted at the scene by accident investigators from the Michigan State Police and the Marquette County Sheriff’s office, Michigan State Police from the Negaunee post, Ishpeming Township Police, Negaunee Police, Bell Hospital EMS and the Ishpeming Volunteer Fire Department.
