Identities of Ishpeming motorcycle crash victims released

ISHPEMING, MI--   Authorities have identified the man and woman who died after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a rental truck in Ishpeming last week.

The Thursday crash at the intersection of US-41 and Lakeshore Drive killed Gary Kappler, 64, of Ahmeek and passenger Diane Palosaari, 52, of Mohawk.  Palosaari was Kappler's girlfriend.  Neither was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Police say a preliminary investigation finds the truck driven by Raymond Michael Anderson, 19, of Ishpeming turned into the path of the motorcycle.  Officials say the cycle had the right of way.

Anderson was treated for minor injuries at Bell Hospital.

Once the investigation is complete, prosecutors will review the case to determine if charges will be filed.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
