Tanker develops problems, lands at Sawyer

uppermichiganssource.com

SAWYER, MI--   A U.S. Air Force KC-135 air refueling plane made an emergency landing at Sawyer International Airport after it developed problems in-flight Tuesday.

The aircraft was coming from Milwaukee and taking part in a touch-and-go landing drill when it apparently had a hydraulics issue and landed at the airport around 5 p.m.

The tanker, which had been based at the former KI Sawyer Air Force Base, had 6,000 gallons of fuel and a crew of three aboard.

Sawyer Manager Duane DuRay says the plane radioed air controllers about 25 minutes before touching down.
