Man struck by car in Breitung Township construction zone

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP, MI--   A construction worker is injured after he was hit by a drunk driver in Dickinson County. 

A trooper from the Iron Mountain Post was on patrol Thursday morning and had entered a construction zone on US-2 near 3rd Street in Breitung Township when he saw a worker get hit by a car and fall to the ground. 

The car left the scene, but the trooper pursued and was able to stop it.  The driver—a 34-year-old woman—was arrested for operating while intoxicated causing serious injury and failure to stop and identify at the scene of a personal injury crash.

The construction worker—a 54-year-old man from Saginaw—was taken to Dickinson Memorial Hospital.  His condition is unknown at this time.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
