Alcohol allegedly a factor in Ely Township rollover

ELY TOWNSHIP, MI--   No major injuries are reported, after a car with two passengers inside rolled over in Marquette County Saturday.

Sheriff’s deputies say the crash happened around 8 p.m. on County Road 581 just north of County Road CD in Ely Township.

A 42-year-old Negaunee man was northbound in a Chevy Tahoe when he lost control and drove off the roadway.  The vehicle hit a snow bank and overturned.

The driver suffered minor cuts.  His 43-year-old male passenger from Marquette was not injured.

Officials say the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.  He was arrested for operating while impaired and taken to the Marquette County Jail.

Deputies say speed was also a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
