Ice rescue performed near Escanaba

thejournal.co.uk

ESCANABA, MI--   Unsafe ice conditions in Little Bay de Noc prompted the rescue of three people Saturday night.

Gladstone Public Safety was called to Saunders Point when two people on ATVs fell through the ice.  A third was stranded on top of the ice.

Officers used a hovercraft to reach and rescue the victims who had broken through.  It then guided the third person and their ATV over safer ice back to shore.

Neither the conditions of the victims nor their names have yet been reported.

The Gladstone and Ensign Fire Departments, Delta County Sheriff’s Department, Delta County Search and Rescue, and Michigan State Police assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
