Baraga County police find car stuck in snow, track passenger who walked 10 miles

L'ANSE TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person has been arrested after he called troopers from the Baraga detachment to tell them his car was stuck in snow.

State Police and Sheriff’s deputies responded to a snowmobile trail in L’Anse Township early Sunday morning and found two Baraga men who were highly intoxicated.  They’d been stuck for about three hours.

The 24-year-old driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated and lodged in the county jail.  His passenger was taken to a residence by the Keweenaw Bay Tribal Police.

A third intoxicated male passenger had walked away from the car before police arrived.  Troopers found his footprints on another trail some distance from the original location.  They followed the tracks for more than 1.5 miles and found the man lying on the trail.  He’d apparently walked over ten miles wearing only jeans, a hooded sweatshirt, and tennis shoes.  He was cold, but otherwise in good condition.

The man was transported to a residence in Baraga.
