Pedestrian hit by vehicle in Marquette Township

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Marquette man is okay, after he was hit by a car near Wal-Mart in Marquette Township Tuesday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened around noon at the intersection of US-41 and County Road 492.

Deputies say the traffic light had just turned green when Carl Ritari, 71, tried to cross the highway and was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by Richard Rolain, 76, of Ishpeming.  Rolain’s vehicle was going relatively slowly and Ritari sustained only minor injuries.

The westbound lanes of US-41 were narrowed to one lane for about 20 minutes.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
