M-28 closes again; zero visibility causes accident

UPDATE, 2/19:  M-28 was reopened Wednesday at 9:30 p.m., but was closed again Thursday at 4:30 a.m. because of worsening conditions.  Officials will reevaluate the situation later on Thursday.

______________

ALGER COUNTY, MI--   Poor weather conditions caused an eight-vehicle crash on M-28 between Munising and Marquette, prompting its closure.

Officials shut down the stretch Wednesday around 12:30 p.m. because of blowing snow and zero visibility.

Munising Police say the multiple-vehicle accident happened between Christmas and Munising.  Tow trucks apparently had a difficult time getting to the scene because of bad conditions.  Most of the vehicles sustained only minor damage and were able to drive away.

M-28 will remain closed until conditions improve.
