Pedestrian hit by car in Houghton County

ADAMS TOWNSHIP, MI--   An Atlantic Mine man is lodged in the Houghton County Jail in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Adams Township.

Troopers from the Calumet Post say Tuesday around 2:15 p.m. a vehicle was westbound on Obenhoff Road when it crossed the centerline, went off the road, and struck a 36-year-old Atlantic Mine woman who was walking.  The driver then fled the scene.

Witnesses gave a description of the vehicle, which was later located by a sheriff’s deputy.  The 31-year-old driver was lodged in the Houghton County Jail on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury.

The pedestrian was taken to U.P. Health System Portage.  Her condition is unknown at this time.

The crash remains under investigation by Advanced Accident Investigators from the Michigan State Police.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
