Coast Guard rescues group from Little Presque Isle

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Sixteen people had to be rescued at Little Presque Isle Sunday morning when an ice bridge leading out to the island broke up.

Three groups of people trekked across the ice from the mainland, but warm temperatures and high winds soon broke the bridge, creating a 30-foot gap between Little Presque and the shoreline.

The U.S. Coast Guard sent out a boat and rescue helicopter around 5 p.m. after one of the hikers called 911.  Authorities picked up 14 adults, two children and three dogs.

No injuries were reported.
