Woman dies in cliff fall

MASTODON TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Crystal Falls woman has died after falling from a cliff in Iron County’s Mastodon Township.  

State Police from the Iron Mountain Post say Sandra Waldo, 70, was at Horse Race Rapids on the Paint River Saturday afternoon when the accident happened.  Waldo was removed from the scene by rescue personnel, but her injuries were fatal.   

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Iron County Sheriff’s Department and Alpha-Mastodon Fire Department.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
