Train derails in Norway Township

NORWAY TOWNSHIP, MI--   A train has derailed in Dickinson County. 

Troopers from the Iron Mountain Post say it happened Wednesday around 8:25 p.m. near Sturgeon Mill Road in Norway Township.  About ten of the 29 Canadian National Railway Company cars attached to the engine came off the tracks. 

Officials say the cars were empty and no materials were spilled.  The cause of the accident has yet to be determined. 

Train derailment specialist Hulcher Services is en route to the scene.

The Norway Fire Department and Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
