Cut cable in the Keweenaw affects 911 service

KEWEENAW/HOUGHTON COUNTIES, MI--   Verizon cellular services are out in Keweenaw and part of Northern Houghton counties.

The Michigan Public Safety Communications System says a fiber optic cable in the area of Bumbletown Road was cut Wednesday.  The outage affects access to 911 emergency services using cell phones.  Until service is restored, 911 can still be reached using a traditional land line.

Officials say Frontier and Verizon are working to restore regular and emergency communications as quickly as possible.

Other cell carriers should not be affected.
