Boating accident on the Portage Canal

STANTON TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Houghton County woman is injured, following a boating accident in Stanton Township.

WLUC-TV reports the incident happened Sunday evening at a dock at a residence on Rocky Shores Road.  Sheriff’s deputies say Kevin Geshel, 55, of Painesdale was maneuvering his boat to the dock on the Portage Canal when it hit the end of the dock.  The front of the boat—where Geshel’s 53-year-old wife Lori was sitting—became lodged under the dock.

Lori Geshel was taken to UP Health System Portage, then flown to Marquette for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
