Greenland man hurt in motorcycle accident

ROCKLAND TOWNSHIP, MI--   An elderly Ontonagon County man is recovering from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash last week.  

Sheriff’s officials say the accident happened Thursday around 2:30 p.m. on US-45 near French Shanty Road in Rockland Township.  Edward Kangas, 84, of Greenland was northbound when his bike had mechanical problems while he was negotiating a curve.  Kangas went into the ditch and hit a tree. 

Kangas was taken to Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital for treatment of leg injuries.

The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Michigan State Police at the scene.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
