Teens involved in Marquette Township single-vehicle crash

UPDATE:  The driver is identified as Desiree Love of Champion; her passenger was Katherine Spitza of Marquette.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two 17-year-old girls were injured when their car drove off a road in Marquette Township and hit some trees.  

Tuesday around 6:15 p.m. sheriff’s deputies responded to Forestville Road just north of Huron Woods Drive.  They found the Ford Focus driven by a

17-year-old girl from Champion left the roadway and struck two large trees before coming to rest on its driver’s side. 

The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Marquette Township Fire Department.  She and her passenger were taken to UP Health System Marquette for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

The driver was found at fault for driving too fast for conditions.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
