Body found at Presque Isle Park

UPDATE (9/18 3:15pm) - Police have identified the body as that of 33-year old Marquette resident Nicholas Straka. No foul play is suspected.

MARQUETTE, MI--   Officials have recovered a body from the bottom of a cliff at Presque Isle Park in Marquette. 

City Police and Fire departments responded to an area near Black Rocks around 12:20 p.m. Thursday and found the male subject deceased. 

Two hikers reported the body after it appeared in some photos they’d just taken of the area. 

The subject was recovered by the U.S. Coast Guard.  His name has not been released, pending notification of family members. 

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, NMU Public Safety, and UPHS Marquette EMS assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
