ST. IGNACE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Mackinac County teen was killed in a two-vehicle crash near St. Ignace Township over the weekend.

Sheriff’s deputies say the accident happened early Saturday morning on the Mackinac Trail about a mile south of M-123.  They say a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old Brevort Township male collided head-on with a vehicle driven by a 40-year-old St. Ignace man.

The teen died of injuries sustained in the crash.  The older man was treated at Mackinac Straits Hospital and released.  He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and lodged in the Mackinac County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

The suspect’s name has not been released, pending arraignment.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
