Man cited for causing M-35 accident

RICHMOND TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says four vehicles were involved in a crash on M-35 in Richmond Township Thursday.

It happened around 7 a.m. just south of County Road MA near Goose Lake.  A van driven by William Belmore, 53, of Marquette was southbound when he started to pass a semi on an uphill curve.  He nearly struck a northbound vehicle driven by James Klumb, 54, of Marquette head-on, but Klumb swerved and the two vehicles side-swiped each other.  Belmore continued south and hit a northbound pickup driven by Lance Yunk, 45, of Palmer head-on.

Belmore was taken to UP Health System Marquette for treatment.  Yunk sought his own treatment, and neither Klumb nor the semi driver was injured.

Belmore was cited for reckless driving.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
