Cannon extricated from vehicle after crash

KALKASKA COUNTY, MI--   A candidate for Michigan’s first congressional seat has been injured in a car accident downstate.

The Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Office says Saturday around 9 p.m. Jerry Cannon, 67, had to be extricated from his vehicle, which overturned on Ingersoll Road after it hit a patch of black ice.

Cannon was taken to Munson Medical Center, where he remains in fair condition.

Cannon will face fellow Democrat Lon Johnson in the August 2016 primary.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
