UPDATE: Woman killed by semi in Escanaba

UPDATE, 1/18/16:  The name of the woman killed by a semi in Escanaba has been released.

Escanaba Public Safety says the pedestrian has been identified as Judith Gurney, 65, of Wells Township.

Officials are investigating the possibility that Gurney intentionally stepped in front of the semi as it traveled North Lincoln Road Saturday.

ESCANABA, MI--   Escanaba Public Safety officers are investigating the death of a pedestrian in the city Saturday.

Around 11:15 a.m. officers were called to the 2300 block of North Lincoln Road.  They say a semi truck was southbound on the highway when it struck a female who entered its lane of traffic. 

She was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital, then transferred to UP Health System Marquette, where she later died of her injuries. 

Police say they’re investigating the possibility the pedestrian intentionally walked into the path of the semi. 

No other injuries were reported.

The accident remains under investigation.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
