Snowmobile falls through Lake Gogebic ice

ONTONAGON COUNTY, MI--   A Wisconsin man was saved from drowning after he broke through Lake Gogebic ice while snowmobiling.

The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office says Gregory Lee Strayer of Bonduel, WI left the Hoop n Holler Bar Thursday around 1:30 p.m. and drove over ice marked as unsafe on the eastern side of the lake.  His snowmobile broke through the thin ice layer.

Strayer was rescued by a Sheriff’s deputy, a Michigan State Police trooper from the Wakefield Post, and a Conservation Officer with the Department of Natural Resources.  Officials say he did not suffer any serious injuries.

Strayer was cited for careless driving.
