UPDATE: Man dies in Ford River Township car/pedestrian crash

UPDATE:  The victim has been identified as David William Weber, 68, of Bark River.  Officials say alcohol was not a factor with either of the drivers involved.

_______________

FORD RIVER TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Delta County pedestrian has been killed in a 2-vehicle traffic crash.

State Police at the Gladstone Post say it happened Wednesday just before 8 p.m. on US-2 & 41 near I Road in Ford River Township.

Initial investigation shows a 68-year-old man was walking eastbound along the centerline of the roadway when a westbound vehicle approached.  The driver tried to avoid the man, but couldn’t, and the vehicle delivered a glancing hit.  The pedestrian was trying to get back on his feet when he was struck by a second westbound vehicle.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say the pedestrian was dressed in dark pants and a black jacket at the time of the crash.  It was well after dark when it happened and heavy cloud cover prevented any natural lighting in the area.

The man’s name has not been released, pending notification of family.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
