Alcohol a factor in Houghton County accident

HOUGHTON COUNTY, MI--   Two people have been injured in a single-vehicle crash in Houghton County.

Sheriff’s deputies say it happened just after midnight Friday on South River Road.  A vehicle driven by Andrew Korona, 23, left the roadway, hit a power pole, and rolled on its side.

Neither Korona nor his passenger were wearing seat belts.  They were taken to U.P. Health System Portage, treated, and released.

Officials say alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, Otter Lake Fire and First Responders, and Bay Ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
