Body found near Grand Island identified

MUNISING, MI--   Officials have identified a body found in Murray Bay near Grand Island May 16th

WLUC-TV says dental records indicate the man is Richard C. Blanford of Potterville, MI.

Park rangers found a vehicle belonging to Blanford abandoned in a parking lot near Miner’s Castle at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore April 11th.  Attempts to contact or locate him were unsuccessful, and there was no sign of foul play at his downstate residence.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Forest Service conducted a search near Grand Island.  Blanford’s body was recovered and taken to UPHS Marquette for an autopsy.

No cause of death has yet been determined, and toxicology reports are pending.

The incident remains under investigation.
