Vehicles crash into Chippewa County motel

STRONGS, MI--   A Strongs motel was damaged early Monday morning when two vehicles crashed into it.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened around 1:45 a.m. on M-28 and Strongs Road.  A vehicle driven by Joseph Mehaffey of Delta County apparently left the roadway, went through a ditch, and drove through a bar and gas station parking lot. The car narrowly missed the gas pumps and hit a parked van, causing both to crash into the wall of a nearby motel.

Deputies say several people were in the motel, but no one was injured.

Mehaffey was taken to War Memorial Hospital for treatment.  Officials say he was combative and uncooperative, but due to the nature of his injuries he could not be arrested right away.

Deputies say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
