Man who rushed into Lake Michigan to help sons dies

MANISTIQUE, MI (AP)--   A Detroit-area man has died, two weeks after trying to rescue two sons in Lake Michigan off the Upper Peninsula.

A funeral was held Monday for 53-year-old Kevin Ketchum of Shelby Township. Pixley Funeral Home says he died on Aug. 17.

Police in Manistique say Ketchum suffered injuries on Aug. 4 when he rushed into Lake Michigan to help two sons who were struggling in the water. Authorities also responded and rounded up the boys.

Ketchum was transferred to a Detroit-area hospital before his death.
