UPDATE: Small plane crashes in Door County, WI

UPDATE, 11:30 am:  Officials say two people have died in the crash of a small plane in Door County.

Sheriff's Chief Deputy Patrick McCarty says a volunteer pilot was returning a teenage flying student to Door County from Green Bay when the Cessna 182 went down in Peninsula State Park Sunday night.

A caller notified authorities about 8:30 p.m. after seeing the plane circling and hearing a crash. At least a-half dozen agencies began searching by land and in the water near the park.

A bicyclist on a trail in the park called authorities after discovering the crash about 10 p.m.

McCarty identified the pilot as 69-year-old Ralph Keller of Sister Bay and La Grange Park, Illinois. The passenger was 16-year-old Olivia Dahl, of Sister Bay.

Federal investigators were expected at the scene Monday.

UPDATE, 11:10 am:  Officials say there were no survivors when a small plane crashed in a state park in northeastern Wisconsin. 

Authorities did not say how many people were on board the private plane when it crashed in Door County Sunday night or if anyone on the ground was injured.

Sheriff's officials say the plane was found in the woods of Peninsula State Park, a popular camping spot. The sheriff's department got a call about 8:30 p.m. about a crash that was heard after a plane circled near Ephraim.

At least a-half dozen agencies searched by land and in the waters of Green Bay for about an hour before the plane was found in the park.

EPHRAIM, WI (AP)--   Officials say a small plane has crashed in a state park in northeastern Wisconsin. 

The U.S. Coast Guard says the private plane went down in Peninsula State Park near Ephraim in Door County Sunday night.

There's no word on how many were on board the plane or their conditions. The Coast Guard got a call about the crash around 9:30 p.m.

Door County is a popular vacation spot in Wisconsin and the state park is typically filled with hundreds of weekend campers.
