Ambulance involved in Negaunee Township rollover

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   State Police from the Negaunee Post were called to a rollover accident involving an ambulance Sunday.

Around 4:45 a.m. troopers responded to US-41 near Midway Drive.  They say Matthew Strong, 29, of Marquette was driving the UP Health System Marquette ambulance back to the hospital.  Neither the lights nor the siren were being used, and there were no patients on board.

Strong lost control of the ambulance on the snow- and ice-covered roadway.  The vehicle slid sideways off the roadway and into the ditch, where it rolled over on its side.

Strong and a passenger were wearing seat belts and weren’t injured.  He was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
